The internet is full of distractions, every minute of every day, and it can be easy to get sucked into the vortex that is social media just browsing and clicking.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever visited Pinterest or Facebook and suddenly lost two hours of your day going down a rabbit hole of interesting images and posts. *raises hand*
The StayFocusd Chrome browser app (which is free) will literally block you from going to all those distracting time sucks so you can get more work done. You tell the app how much time you want to allow yourself for a certain site per day (you could say 15 minutes for Facebook, for example) and once you’ve reached the time limit it will block you from visiting the remainder of the day.
At first I thought this is silly, I could just set my own timer for 15 minutes. But the truth of the matter is that I don’t do that when I visit a website. I’ll set my timer for tasks and other things, but even though it’s right there at my fingertips I never set it for a website browse or a social media break. StayFocusd is a reminder that there are only so many hours to the day and it’s time to get back to work.
The settings are all customizable. You can set it up to block or limit sites by day of the week, by time frame, by total time spent, lots of choices. Now go get yourself focused and get back to work 😉
